UNCO[V]ERED: Tyla Yaweh

Did you catch Post Malone‘s huge Aussie tour? If you turned up for the support acts (which you always should!) you would have caught Tyla Yaweh‘s high energy show. So you’ll definitely know why Tyla is our UNCO[V]ERED artist for this week!

Tyla Yaweh has been steadily growing a strong base of support amongst the music game’s elites. Born in Florida as Tyler Jamal Brown, Tyla Yaweh uprooted from Orlando to Los Angeles in 2015 to pursue his musical aspirations. With only a few hundred dollars to his name, Tyla kept focused on his goal of becoming one of the game’s biggest rockstars, even when faced with financial hardships that landed him homeless and forced him to sleep in studios, cards and couches. Through all the trials and struggles, he continued to push forward recording music any chance he could and perfecting his live performance.

The song [‘High Right Now’] is about my life,” explains Yaweh. “I’m living an ultimate high. I went from being homeless to traveling the globe with Rockstars, being able to connect and spread positive vibes to so many people.”

Being heavily influenced by RnB, hip-hop and pop, Tyla effortlessly blends genres creating a unique sound that easily makes him an artist to watch.

‘High Right Now’ proves equally intoxicating and irresistible. Yaweh levitates through an ornate church as gorgeous gothic ballerinas sway to the echoes of airy clean guitar and codeine-drenched trap drums. His woozy flows give way to a fiery falsetto refrain, “I’m so high right now. I don’t think I’ll ever come down.” With its ominous setting, this alternative hip-hop séance casts an unbreakable spell.

UNCO[V]ERED will premiere on Saturday at 12noon, after the Spotify Countdown. Channel 801, only on Foxtel.
