Try to pick a genre for UNCO[V]ERED artist Rence, and you might find yourself in trouble. ‘Expensive’ (ft. Noah Cyrus) pairs a propulsive beat with a slick bass line. Take a listen for yourself.
Rence is Brooklyn based, although he was born in D.C., and spent his teens in Seattle. There’s a chance that moving around helped shape his life experiences, which he translates into song, sharing real life snapshots through his music.
“‘Expensive’ is about when you feel like you’ve given someone so much that you’ve depleted your own resources—like you have nothing left to give. It’s not that you don’t want to give that person the world, but you just can’t afford to anymore, because it’s starting to really hurt you. It’s about looking out for and loving yourself in a sense. Noah added another dimension to the song I didn’t even know existed—I just couldn’t believe it when I heard her verse!” says Rence, of the current UNCO[V]ERED track.
You may have noticed Noah has been absent for a little while, but you can see why the track drew her out; “I’ve been in my own world for almost 11 months, and I’m so excited Rence is my first collab back. The record was undeniable from the moment I heard it, and it sounded electric when we had it finished.”
What a pair!
UNCO[V]ERED premieres on Saturday at 12noon, right after the Spotify Countdown. Channel 801, only on Foxtel.
