Phrase
Phrase's debut album, Talk With Force ushered in a new era for Australian Hip-Hop with its raw subject matter and unrivalled sonic foundations courtesy of the Crooked Eye production team (J-Skub, Daniel Merriweather & Phrase). The breakthrough single from the album entitled “Hold On” solidified Phrase’s position at the fore-front of the Australian hip-hop movement. Now, almost four years since his debut, Phrase’s new album, Clockwork, once again breaks the mould of what people expect to hear from an Australian Hip-Hop artist.
To create his new sound, Phrase enlisted the help of producer Jan Skubiszewski (of Aria nominated Jackson Jackson fame). With the help of Jan, Phrase wrote and recorded over three albums worth of material in order to develop the sound and direction of Clockwork. Opting to steer clear of the standard "lets get every rapper I know to feature on my album" concept, Phrase has gone outside the box and reached out to both old and new icons of the Australian music industry. Collaborations on the album include Kram (Spiderbait), Wendy Matthews, Daniel Merriweather, Bliss N Eso, Harry Angus (Cat Empire / Jackson Jackson), Illy, Max White and numerous session musicians from Melbourne’s live music scene.
